i belong to...

...glasgow!!! ...well not really i'm an edinburgh boy born ,if not totally bred, but a recent trip to that "dear green place" opened my mind a bit towards its natural world. the natives were indeed friendly ,and with the help of a local guide,namely my mate,and incidently my daughters boyfriend (don't ask it's complicated!),i saw my first ever kingfisher. all i saw was a very quick flash of azure,but deffinately one. a trip to the royal botanical garden was great too, several habitats under one roof, my favorite was the venus fly traps..amazing wee things. the night before i came home an hours watch on the white cart water and we spotted a dipper and eight red breasted mergansers ,swimming in formation ,and diving for food, obviously a family group.the last day was a real bonus, a trip to pollack park the gardens are amazing ,and in a quiet half hour in the wildlife garden ,we spotted greenfinches and thrushes. on the way back just to put the icing on the cake ..a special "flypast" by squadron kingfisher!!.... a couple of pints in the Park Bar,while waiting on the bus home ,and the end of a great visit.
