non swimming white duck?
Posted 15-04-2009 at 04:51 PM by sandra shillitoe
Can anyone give me any advice? I bought 6 white ducklings recently, they are now about 6 weeks old and have ignored our pond for the last 2 weeks. They were kept in an enclosure before. The seller says this is normal, and they should start getting interested in another 4 weeks. Is this odd or not? I thought all ducklings swam pretty well immediately. Thanks folks.

| | ducks usually follow what their mums do so if they have had no introduction to water they may not actually know to use the pond just yet. When we reared ducks we would put a shallow container in their pen so that they would start splashing about in it in their own time. once they are used to it being there they will start to investigate. as you said in another few weeks they will start to swim. they do not have the oil on their wings being so young that they need to keep water out from under their feathers. dont worry, let nature take it course. |
