River Nene In March

Thank heaven for sunshine! On my daily walk around the lakes today, the wildfowl were out in huge numbers - we saw 5 great crested grebes in one small area - and the sound of bird song was fantastic. 3 male and one female blackbird in the garden this morning - what a decision she has to make! And Mrs Pigeon was sitting proudly on her nest - of about 6 twigs!!! I will try to get a photo of her tomorrow as she looks so ridiculous although I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post photos of nests...? Will have to check before posting.
Still vast quantities of lichen though and no sign of buds or shoots on 99.9% of the trees and hedges... I do hope they realise Spring is here soon!
Red Kites are certainly thriving around here - and how stunning they look against the bright blue sky. What an amazing world.
