Top Poster: glsammy (15,068) | | Welcome to our newest member, rickyhobson | | Uncategorized Entries with no category  | Posted 03-07-2009 at 04:41 PM by RoutlTrc Made another trip up to North Yorkshire again yesterday,this time to the superb Fen Bog YWTR.What a day we had, seeing 5 male Golden-ringed Dragonfly's,41 Keeled Skimmer,66 Small pearl-bordered Fritillary,7 Dark-green Fritillary and 5 Argent and Sable Moths.Other sightings of note where breeding Whinchat's,Peregrine,25 plus Beautiful-yellow Underwing and some cracking scenery as well.The Argent and Sables were a new moth species for me and are a particularly attractive species.. | New Member | | Comments 0
|  | Posted 01-07-2009 at 09:10 AM by RoutlTrc I visited the Wykeham Forest/Troutsdale area today to look for the special raptors which breed in this area and we wern't disappointed with excellent views of both Honey Buzzard(4 birds) and Goshawk (at least 3 differant birds).At one point we had 3 Honey's in the air together with a Common Buzzard for comparison! And another amazing sighting was when we watched a male Goshawk carrying a caught Jay across the valley infront of us,brilliant stuff1!!Also observed in the area was a single Red Kite,which... | New Member | | Comments 2
|  | Posted 27-06-2009 at 03:57 PM by RoutlTrc An afternoon walk at the Carrs today resulted in a singing male Quail being heard in the wet pasture field which is usually frequented by the Short-eared Owls in the winter,this is my first on the patch for a couple of years.Other notable sightings where my first local Red Admirals of the summer,with one watched egg-laying on some nettles.There was the usual meadow species present also,Meadow Brown,Ringlet,Large Skipper,Small Tortoiseshell and a couple of worn Painted lady's.Just a shame about the... | New Member | | Comments 0
|  | Posted 26-06-2009 at 05:25 PM by RoutlTrc Myself and a few of the lads where invited around to Roy and Linda Harveys at Grasby to see what species we could catch.On arrival the weather didn't look to promising due to the clear sky,but we managed a respectable 60 species.The best highlights apart from the usual Hawkmoth species were a Beautiful Hooktip,5 Plain-golden Y,Burnished Brass and a lovely fresh Common Emerald.Not a bad effort at all. | New Member | | Comments 0
|  | Posted 26-06-2009 at 05:19 PM by RoutlTrc A wander around the reserve today to see what i could find,saw me recording my first Southern Hawkers of the year(All teneral males) and i even managed some pic's.Also noticeable today where the good numbers of Meadow Brown and Ringlets in the grassy areas and i also saw at least 5 differant male Hairy Dragonflys.This species has shown very well this year,at this, the best site for the species in the county.I also managed to find myself a new species of Hoverfly Chrysotoxum festivum,this is a stunner... | New Member | | Comments 0
