Then picked up the Red-Backed Shrike nearby at Sea Palling. Very nice to see both in one small area.
Couldn't see any Honey Buzzard at Great Ryburgh watchpoint. Lots of Common Buzzards and a few "possibles" but nothing I'm at all confident about.
Amazing numbers of Marsh Harriers around, but no sign of Monty's around a good location. Will have to go back... | Officer of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0
|  | Posted 18-06-2008 at 03:34 PM by Rob_D Tried to get a picture of the Little Owls near their nest in Ashwell. Using the camera with the scope is often pretty hopeless at long distance if you just try holding the camera like I do. This was the best shot, but still not very clear.
The female owl was not too happy about me being there, so I didn't hang around. Hope to see the fledglings one day soon.

|  | Posted 14-06-2008 at 05:06 PM by Rob_D Tried to improve some of the records for the BTO Atlas where I live. Tracked down 5 House Martin nests (one under construction). Not sure if this is the usual number, but I don't recall seeing many in Baldock before anyway. Swallows nesting in the farm barn. Not sure where the Swifts are nesting, but there seems to be very few this year?
Revisted my Tetrad (TL23Q) and added records for Bullfinch and House Martin. Had a nice Hobby overhead which is unusual since there is no water other... | Officer of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0

"Earnie" the hedgehog seems to have taken up residence in the corner designed for her if the strange coughing noise is anything to go by! Past 3 years she definitely roosted elsewhere and just came visiting.
At last there is the chance of a nest in the garden (or just in next-doors) as blackbirds are building in the spiky hedge. Will keep an eye... | Officer of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0
