Adders - June 10
Posted 11-06-2008 at 10:29 AM by Rob_D
Got up early and searched for adders around Rammamere Heath and Kings Wood on the Bucks/Beds border. Sun was shining at first and the hayfever really kicked in. Nearly gave up as I found nothing in the sandy heath and wooded areas. Before I went I decided to have a quick look in the more lush grass/low birch scrub.
10 minutes in the scrub - OMG - nearly trod on a large male adder. He moved under the bush before I had a chance to get a snap. A second adder soon followed, again too quick. A couple of minutes later, a large female out in the open grass. She kept still just long enough to get close.

Very happy with this after hours of searching in vain in Dorset and Devon a few weeks ago.
Went home via Aspley and checked for crossbills in the pine plantation, but no joy. Full of singing goldcrests though.
