A blog by Paul Rigg mainly about the wildlife seen around Kiveton Park near Sheffield especially Kiveton Woodlands the site of the old Kiveton Pit. Over the last couple of years it has had worked carried out by the Forestry Commission and also by British Waterways (to create Kiveton Waters fishing ponds). I am also a member of SK58 birders watching birds in the 10km square of SK58
(http://www.sk58birders.com/). The blog will also talk about wildlife seen on trips to other places.
I am just getting into filming wildlife and these attempts can be seen on http://uk.youtube.com/user/paulrigg99.

Longshaw Estate 3 December 2008

On the 3 December 2008 I went on a team building exercise with a group of fellow 3rd year student nurses from Sheffield University. Meeting at the cafe at Grindleford station. If you are ever out in the peak district this is a place to visit for a fry up pre walk or chip butties after! Tea sold by the pint pot!. The estate in places had a slim layer of snow making it picture perfect. Whilst the walk produced little in the way of wildlife (40 student nurses are not exactly stealth like) walking with a group of 6 other nurses we did see plenty of robins and blue tits. I think what I enjoyed most though was the interest the others in my group showed in the environment they were in. Walking above Padley Gorge I hoped for a glimpse of a Dipper since the small waterfalls looked ideal. More research may be required to see if they are in the area followed by a trip to find them.
All in all a lovely day out nice food, good company, a nice pint of Black Sheep at Fox House Inn (felt sorry for the Nurse Practitioner from a local hospital who had come out to Fox House for a meal only to find it full off student nurses!)
