A blog by Paul Rigg mainly about the wildlife seen around Kiveton Park near Sheffield especially Kiveton Woodlands the site of the old Kiveton Pit. Over the last couple of years it has had worked carried out by the Forestry Commission and also by British Waterways (to create Kiveton Waters fishing ponds). I am also a member of SK58 birders watching birds in the 10km square of SK58

Rother Valley Country Park 27 November 2008

Met a friend at Rother Valley Country Park it was a cold frosty morning with the mist lingering in places. The majority of the geese where still up on the hills surrounding the park. Large numbers of ducks on the lake including Mallard, Pochard, Gadwell, Tufted, a pair of Goosander, a Goldeneye and a Shelduck
Large numbers of Lapwings that kept taking of and flying over the lake. Large numbers of black headed gulls. Some of these settled with a few Lapwings on a jetty.
Eventually a few of the Canada and Greylag geese ventured onto the lake
Ending the walk back at the visitors center we met a friendly Signet that obviously saw us as a food source
