Top Poster: glsammy (15,068) | | Welcome to our newest member, rickyhobson | | | | Went for a quick walk from Anderwood in the New Forest late this afternoon. We went through Anderwood Inclosure, into Knightwood Inclosure & then into Mark Ash Wood.
The birds were very quiet as the light was fading, except for a Great Spotted Wodpecker calling from the top of a tree in Knightwood & some Siskins flew over.
A few mushrooms were undamaged by the frosts, mainly in Anderwood & Mark Ash there were Wood Blewits, Butter Caps, Shaggy Pholiota, & a few species... | Knight Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0
| | | Driving up to Cadman’s Pool in the north of the Forest I went past Bolderwood & just by the Slaughter Hollies a few Fallow bucks were milling around in the dim light with the four year old white buck in amongst them.
Once at Cadman's Pool car park it was still fairly dark & very cold with frost all over the ground. I walked down through Anses Wood towards Dockens Water & Robins, Wrens & also a Nuthatch were already awake & calling. The Tits were waking up to. | | Something a bit unusual on my local lake today, a striking male Goosander. Frequently dived after fish but I never saw it get any. I'd seen one there once before but I'm told a few winters ago one was on all winter so hopefully this one will stay about
Also good numbers of Tufted Ducks, around 20. Loads of Mallard and a couple of Mute Swan. Around the lake was plenty of the usual Tit species, with the odd Siskin heard and a couple of Goldcrest seen | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 2

Was hoping to see Twite at the feeding station by White Holme Res'. Surprisingly I didn't see any. I was also hoping for possible Snow Buntings on Byron Edge, but was less surprised when I missed out on these too.
In fact birdlife was rather scant, with just a Raven overhead, a 'v' formation of 25 gulls, which was a mix of Greater Black Backed and Herring Gulls.
Across the valley,... | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0
| | | Went to the Warburg BBOWT NR at Bix today for the first time in a few years. A lovely frosty morning with Buzzard and Red Kite soaring overhead, flocks of Tits roaming the woods (Long-tailed, Marsh, Great, Blue & Coal) also Great-spot and Green Woodpecker. Fieldfare, Redwing, Mistle & Song Thrush seen. About 50 species in all.
Disturbed a Fox and got a few distant shots as it slunk away and about 5 sighting of Muntjac Deer. The Highlight was a herd of about 50 Fallow Deer. I was crouched... | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0
