I already have my own blog (accessible from my web site) which describes the walks that I go on - I generally walk 12-15 miles, two or three times a week, all over Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and the southern part of Oxfordshire. Here on my WAB blog I will just comment on the wildlife that I see on my walks. I love being out in the countryside and enjoy seeing all types of wildlife, but I am especially interested in birds and wildflowers.
Ashridge walk and more garden bird watching

This morning I walked for 2-3 hours around the woods of the National Trust's Ashridge Estate. I saw my first few bluebells in flower. The highlight of the walk was a Treecreeper, which very obligingly posed for me while I took its photo.
Treecreeper
I saw a few Muntjac deer, but strangely no Fallow deer at all. When I did this walk a few weeks ago, I saw four different groups of Fallow deer, and it is most unusual for me to do a lengthy walk around Ashridge without seeing any at all.
Muntjac Deer
In the afternoon I did a bit more bird watching in the garden. The siskin I saw yesterday was back, and I got a nice photo of a starling.

| | Thanks, Deer Stalker. I was just very lucky - I saw a small bird fly across the path in front of me, and was delighted to see it was a treecreeper on a tree just yards from the path. It was very co-operative in posing for me - even when another walker and his dog came up to me! The photo was actually taken in the 'Intelligent Auto' mode of my camera, so the quality of the image is entirely down to the camera rather than the photographer! It's only the second treecreeeper I've seen this year - the other being at Holkham in Norfolk. I used to see them more often when I lived in Suffolk (but then I did more bird watching when I lived there). |
