The vegetation (mostly nettles, burdock, cow parsley and yellow flag iris) has grown up round it making it very sheltered.

|  | Posted 08-05-2008 at 05:07 PM by nutmeg This afternoon I spotted a 7-spot ladybird anchored by a cocoon - probably of the parasitoid Dinocampus coccinellae, a braconid wasp. The larvae of the wasp immobilise the ladybird and emerge to spin a cocoon between its legs. The unfortunate ladybird is still alive but paralysed, and will either starve or die from infection.

The lovely warm sunshine has brought out a few butterflies. Speckled wood, holly blue and orange tip were seen here for the first time this year.  | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0

|  | Posted 21-04-2008 at 07:13 PM by nutmeg I saw my first swallow of the year on 13 April at Whisby Nature Park, Lincs. This afternoon I saw the first of the year over my garden. Don't know if they were there earlier - the weather hasn't inspired me to spend much time outside.
