I went to a local wood and chanced upon one by the side of the path. I have a snake phobia and usually avoid this area of woodland except in the winter months... I hadn't expected to see one out and about so early!
Anyway, seeing that I was frozen to the spot with fear, I thought I'd be incredibly brave and photograph it.

|  | Posted 31-01-2009 at 07:06 PM by nutmeg A lovely bright day. I went down the bottom of the garden to check on the progress of the winter aconites and snowdrops, taking just my macro lens. Typically, this meant that there were plenty of opportunities to photograph birds and I missed them  .
A grey heron rose up from the pond, as I approached, and flapped slowly overhead. Later, as I lay prone photographing snowdrops, I looked up just as a female sparrowhawk flew right in front of me. The long tailed tits were taunting... | Officer of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0

|  | Posted 29-05-2008 at 04:34 PM by nutmeg This afternoon the sun made an appearance so I spent some time down at my garden pond. The vegetation (mostly nettles, burdock, cow parsley and yellow flag iris) has grown up round it making it very sheltered.
