Bank voles
Posted 08-01-2011 at 09:31 PM by nutmeg
The cold weather seems to have made the bank voles in the garden much bolder than usual. When I go down to the paddock to give the goat her feed mix I usually watch her for a while - and the robin that swoops down to snatch her grain. Recently, I've noticed several bank voles popping out from the undergrowth, probably to grab some grain too. I've started to leave them some seeds and fruit in places where I plan to try to photograph them.
I attempted to get some photos of them today - it's a Saturday and if I don't have a go at the weekend then I have to wait all week for another chance! The light was very gloomy and everything was soggy, but the voles happily nipped in and out of the cover. Unfortunately, my shots were rubbish because I couldn't get a fast enough shutter speed to prevent motion blur (they don't half shift!). I hope things brighten up soon and I can have some more attempts.
