Down the garden, 31 January 2009

A lovely bright day. I went down the bottom of the garden to check on the progress of the winter aconites and snowdrops, taking just my macro lens. Typically, this meant that there were plenty of opportunities to photograph birds and I missed them
.
A grey heron rose up from the pond, as I approached, and flapped slowly overhead. Later, as I lay prone photographing snowdrops, I looked up just as a female sparrowhawk flew right in front of me. The long tailed tits were taunting me too!
I didn't have a good look for insects, but did see a hawthorn shield bug and a kidney spot ladybird - both firsts for the year.
