Garden damselflies
Posted 29-05-2008 at 03:34 PM by nutmeg
This afternoon the sun made an appearance so I spent some time down at my garden pond. The vegetation (mostly nettles, burdock, cow parsley and yellow flag iris) has grown up round it making it very sheltered.
I saw four species of damselfly:
Azure - the most numerous, with at least a dozen on the wing. Two pairs were mating and egg laying.

Blue-tailed:

Large Red - a garden first

Banded demoiselle (male) - first of the year, but not within camera range!
No sign of any dragonflies yet, though.
