Local Patching
Posted 28-11-2007 at 10:24 PM by Lincs Yellowbelly
Apologies for the lateness of this firstly
On Monday I went for a look around a very local patch of mine. A area of land set aside for nature literally 5 minutes from my house. I don't tend to go there much at all, mainly because in summer you just get the local youths about and there is often a fair amount of litter down there
it's quite a diverse area, with Woodland, wetland, a River and open grassland.
Anyway, I was a bit short on time on monday so went over there for an hour or so on monday, and was pleasantly suprised that there wasn't as much rubbish as last time I visited, although still a fair bit(my mam and bruf went down the day after and picked up 3 bags full, good on yer mam)
Theres usually loads of Heinze 57 ducks down there that are fed everyday and there was on monday, plus a few swans, moorhen and coot.
In the woodland there was lots of Blue/Great and LT Tits flying about and good numbers of Goldfinch and Greenfinch.
On the river again was Swans and duck, and I was very happy to spot a Grey Wagtail which is great for a fairly in town area. And a Heron seen flying over.
I suppose the pièce de résistance is an area that used to be dry, but nature has reclaimed it back, killing off all the tree's and leaving dead ones everywhere, a really strange sight, but great for dead insects. I knew that there had to be some GSW using these and there was, a nice female seen right at the top of one
I must go down there more often
I'm sure that Kestrels must use the open Grassland as it's ideal for them.
