Goosander
Posted 25-11-2007 at 06:34 PM by Lincs Yellowbelly
Something a bit unusual on my local lake today, a striking male Goosander. Frequently dived after fish but I never saw it get any. I'd seen one there once before but I'm told a few winters ago one was on all winter so hopefully this one will stay about
Also good numbers of Tufted Ducks, around 20. Loads of Mallard and a couple of Mute Swan. Around the lake was plenty of the usual Tit species, with the odd Siskin heard and a couple of Goldcrest seen

| | Male Goosanders are lovely aren't they? I saw one a few weeks ago, they're stunning in their winter plumage. |

| | Sorry my comment's a bit late, only just spotted your blog! I think Goosanders are great, though sadly I've only ever seen them three or four times. The first time was on a reservoir near Ipswich - even at a distance, the buffish/pinkish reflection of its chest in the water made it stand out like a sore thumb from the gulls in the water around it. |
