For as long as I can remember I've had a love of natural history, especially birds.
So many of the things we see, the experiences we taste, are but a fleeting moment, there to be treasured, but all too often flying away to rest only in our memories. I'm trying to improve my photography so that it too can try and capture some of those moments. As I look at the WAB gallery, I'll have to let my admiration lead to aspiration, not desparation. In the meantime, I can jot down a few experiences and thoughts by way of a blog - nothing too profound, just what it says on the tin... my miscellaneous musings. Thanks for taking the time to have a look and please feel free to leave any comments.

On the lizards tail
Posted 24-06-2009 at 09:14 PM by Jonners
I finally got to see the Lizard Orchids this morning (see earlier entry). Julia agreed to accompany me, and whilst I'm not sure she was convinced of the benefits of the trek to see them, she did at least enjoy the glorious Suffolk sunshine. The same could not be said for the scent of the flower, as she reeled back in what I can only describe as disgust. My amusement at her nasal discomfort led to a brief "discussion" as to whether or not it really did smell of goat, as that was how the notice board had described it. That gem of information revealed that I had an advance inkling of its peculiar odour and having been suitably reprimanded for not warning her before she smelt it, we headed back for the car. I have often looked at pictures of the various orchids named after an array of different creatures and objects, but never imagined that I would see any locally, assuming that they were all in secret little pockets of England, miles away. Thank you Chris, for pointing me in the direction of these ones - it was well worth the walk.
