being new to this and decideing i needed a quiet place set up nearby where i could just sit and enjoy nature made a space for that. However i change it alot as not being sure what to do , i keep going on different places on the web for advice. Wanting it as natural as possible, i first thought of puting food on a rock or ground for small animals or big birds like pidgions. My neighbors were not happy with this idea however as they were afraid i would bring mice or rats so i finally made peace and comprimised with my neighbor and made it a place of natural bueaty instead, with an interesting jug and pretty flowers some leaves like ivy not real but look real and potpourri. its not perfectbut the pidgions still coem for bread i put on the grass and left over seed from my bird feeder and now we are at peace.pictures

i am learning how to slow down. reading books that tell me i need to develop stealth, paitence, and some sort of camoflauge in order to take photos of birds. Not wanting to spend alot of money for camera equipement i thought it would be a bigger challange to use my small poloroid digital camera. I have managed to get some very good photos. Sometimes however i have to lure the birds with seeds, bread, and other foods like bits of cheese. And then the long wait begins. being so new to this, theres alot to learn that is still beyond my knowledge. any advice would be helpful thanks.Total Comments 1

| | Advice? Not sure it is advice really. Yes some remarkable results can be achieved with small cameras.....I find it sickening the results my kids achieve with their phones....some of their results are brilliant. Having said that you need the best equipment you can afford and for me a longer than standard lense is essential.Mine is a 50-200 zoom and that is not long enough, though anything much more than 300 becomes difficult to keep steady. Apart from that keep the camera at the ready. I have lost more shots than I care to think because the camera has been in its bag when an opportunity presented itself and lets face it speed is of the essence....moments of opportunity do not always last very long. Dont be afraid to take a few shots. In the digital age it is possible to take a whole series of shots with no more cost than the need to discard those which are not so good.(That will probably be most of them) Look at what other photographers have achieved. There are photographers on WAB who are well worth looking at but go to one of the Photo sharing sites. Look at Keith Boyer on Flickr. Be inspired if the quality doesn't leave you feeling depressed . Finally : dont expect them to come to you. If you want bird pictures you need to go where the birds are. Go to the reserves and see what is there. Martin mere might be a good one to start with as they have a captive stock of birds on small ponds which are quite close to the paths and on the bigger pond birds can be seen at close quarters, especially when the swans are in occupation( at the moment they are all away in Iceland and Greenland and beyond. Good luck Hope to see some of your shots here. |
