Most exciting was a large influx of Siskins. I've had a group of 7 for the last couple of days, but today there was a flock of atleast 23 birds, and large groups were visiting the seed feeders. Other finch numbers have been good too, with about 15 Goldfinches, 5 Greenfinches and 6 Chaffinches. 6 Long-tailed Tits visited the feeders and there was a Goldcrest in the hedge infront of the house. A few weekends back in the Studland area I saw 3 Eiders, the first time I'd seen them in Poole Harbour, as well as 4 Black-necked Grebes, 1 Great Northern Diver and some large groups of displaying Goldeneye. Haven't had too much going on in the garden but a couple of Sparrowhawk visits and a Bullfinch have been good to see. Along the path in the hedgerows there were a few Goldcrests as well as the usual commoner birds. When I arrived at the hide there was a large flock of Lapwings catching the light nicely, showing their metallic green backs. There were a couple of Avocet mixed in with them, and a larger group further down the inlet. Also a few Shelduck, Teal and Little Egrets around. First stopped at Ferrybridge, as usual there were good numbers of Mediterranean Gulls amongst the Black-headed Gulls. On the fleet lagoon in the distance there was a large group of Mergansers with a few Goldeneye and Little Grebes. First I did a nice walk along Rempstone Ride, I didn't see too much wildlife there but it definetely looks good for invertebrates in the summer, apparently it's home to some real rarities. I did see some flocks of Curlew in the wet fields, a few Mistle Thrush and a group of Long-tailed Tits.
