Welcome to the Wild About Britain forums | | | | | Posted 16-12-2007 at 05:19 PM by GuyF Today I saw another, or possibly the same Little Egret flying over the house, and this time I managed to get a shot of it as a record.
I didn't manage to get out anywhere over the weekend, but the birds around the garden have been very active. I saw a flock of Long-tailed Tits along with 1 Goldcrest, lots of Goldfinches and Greenfinches have been visiting the feeders. I had pairs of both Green and Great-spotted... | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0
| | Posted 02-12-2007 at 07:47 PM by GuyF Had another interesting garden sighting today, when a Little Egret came and landed in the field behind the house, it's only the second time I've seen one from the garden. At first it had me really excited as it was circling with it's neck outstretched (I guess it had just taken off) so this made me think it was a Spoonbill, but it was still a very nice, unexpected sighting. | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0
| | Posted 01-12-2007 at 11:19 PM by GuyF This morning a small group of Lapwings flew over the garden, which was very nice to see, it's the first time I've seen them in the area.
I was in Hampshire during the day, and I was able to make a couple of short stops, one to Blackwater Arboretum and the other to Pennington Marshes.
I was at Blackwater at around midday, so too early to see the Hawfinch roost, but it was still a nice walk. I did see some beautiful Bullfinches as well as a couple of Marsh Tits, and frustratingly... | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 2
| | Posted 26-11-2007 at 05:05 PM by GuyF Updated 26-11-2007 at 05:14 PM by GuyF Today I visited Arne, There were some Sika Deer in the fields, and some small groups of Long-tailed Tits.
Poole Harbour was completely still and quiet, and visible was pretty good. There were a few Mergansers standing on Long Island, but they started fishing as I arrived, there were also quite a few Great-crested Grebes, and small groups of Oystercatchers kept flying past. A few Little Egrets were fishing along the shore, and a family of Dark-bellied Brent Geese flew in soon after we arrived.... | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 3
| | Posted 17-11-2007 at 07:16 PM by GuyF Had a good days birdwatching in the Weymouth area today, despite the weather. First stopped off at Radipole. From the visitor centre there were 3 Mediterranean Gulls among many Common, Black-headed, Herring, Greater Black-backed and Lesser Black-backed Gulls. Also a Lapwing on the island. Elsewhere on the reserve there were lots of Tufted Ducks and Little Grebes, as well as some Pochards, and I had a couple of good Water Rail sightings, one was even walking along the footpath! From the North Hide... | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 2
