The Brambling hasn't shown up again unfortunately, but the Siskins are still around which is nice. As the weather was so nice today I decided to try and get some better Siskin shots, but I didn't have much success as they stayed high up in the birches.
A lot of Great-spotted Woodpecker activity at the moment, they're drumming a lot and I keep seeing groups chasing each other over the garden. Also saw a Green Woodpecker fly over this morning.
A Grey Wagtail was on the roof earlier in the day and also had a Wren in the garden.
I managed to get 2 close views of the local Sparrowhawk hunting today, first time round she swooped on the feeding station and then perched on top for a minute, and then this afternoon she flew fast up the lane trying to surprise the birds in the hedgerow. Also 4 or 5 Buzzards over the house.
There were a few 7-spot Ladybirds basking in the garden, and I saw a couple of large Bumblebees flying. Also, while clearing the pond of leaves I came across a few young Newts, which I guess have spent the winter in the pond.
I tried putting the moth trap out last night as it had been so mild but I caught absolutely nothing! There was frost on the outside of the trap so I suppose it's still too cold for them!
Here a a couple of my better Siskin shots, first a male and then a female.
