Still having pretty good numbers of Siskins visiting, probably about 10 birds, but today I had another exciting winter visitor, a Brambling. I always like seeing these beautiful finches, and this is only the second time I've seen one in the garden, and it's been quite a while since I saw my last one anywhere!
I managed this terrible shot of the Brambling, my excuse is that it was early in the morning and the light was very poor.

 |  Our Siskins haven't appeared yet this year, it's always late before we get ours here in the Dales. Brambling come through early Autumn and then disappear unless we have a good crop of beech mast - this hasn't happened for a few years. Keep the updates coming. Rob |

| |  Nice to have a Brambling in your garden Guy. At the moment on the Forest they're getting few & far between. |

| |  Unfortunately I haven't seen the Brambling since then (which is just the same as the last time I had one in the garden, it disappeared after 1 day). There's been a flock of about 200 near Badbury Rings over the winter, I don't think we normally get those sort of numbers in Dorset so it seems to be a good year for them here. Still getting a few Siskins on the feeders, probably about 7 still hanging around! |
