Got out for the first time in ages yesterday and headed to Studland. First I did a nice walk along Rempstone Ride, I didn't see too much wildlife there but it definetely looks good for invertebrates in the summer, apparently it's home to some real rarities. I did see some flocks of Curlew in the wet fields, a few Mistle Thrush and a group of Long-tailed Tits. Out in Poole Harbour I could see a Goldeneye and a couple of Merganser, also some Wigeon and lots of Shelduck and Brent Geese resting in the marshland.
I'm not very good at id'ing plants but I thought I found a few Dorset Heaths amongst the other species of heather, they certainly looked different.
On the way back out I stopped briefly in the Middle Beach carpark to scan the sea, there were a few Black-necked Grebes, a Great Northern Diver, a Razorbill and a few Shags. There was also a nice group of Oystercatchers circling the car park calling.

| | Yes, can't complain about seeing an Egret from the house, it flew over again a couple of days ago, still it's always nice to get out somewhere different. I'm not too sure when to start the moth trap, over the last few weeks I've noticed December Moths and Mottled Umbers on the lights by the front door so I suppose I could be catching things now, but I think I'll probably wait til March to start going again. I'm looking forward to it ![]() |
