This morning a small group of Lapwings flew over the garden, which was very nice to see, it's the first time I've seen them in the area.
I was in Hampshire during the day, and I was able to make a couple of short stops, one to Blackwater Arboretum and the other to Pennington Marshes.
I was at Blackwater at around midday, so too early to see the Hawfinch roost, but it was still a nice walk. I did see some beautiful Bullfinches as well as a couple of Marsh Tits, and frustratingly just managed to miss a Hawfinch sitting in the sun at the top of a pine tree, but I'll definetely be back there later in the winter so hopefully I'll see them then
After this I went to Pennington, it started to rain just as I arrived so I didn't leave the car, but I was still able to see lots of birds in the first field. There were a lot of Pintails, Wigeon, Teal and Canada Geese as well as smaller numbers of Shoveler. Quite a few waders around too, with large groups of Lapwing, Golden Plover and Black-tailed Godwits.
