Mark Ash Wood - 20th Jan 08
Posted 20-01-2008 at 11:01 PM by Deer Stalker
Decided to have a walk around Mark Ash & a bit of North Oakley Inclosure this morning.
Started off from the gravel pull in at 7.40am.
The Robins & Wrens were singing away as usual & were joined by Song & Mistle Thrush. As I walked around the wood there were plenty of Great, Blue & Marsh Tits, Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker & a Goldfinch called as it flew over head. On some of the fallen Beeches there was alot of Stereum hirsutum, Turkeytail, Oyster Mushrooms & Witches Butter.
I got to the gate of North Oakley Inclosure & had a quick walk round. Here Goldcrests were singing & a flock of Crossbills passed over.
I came back out of the Inclosure & into Mark Ash Wood again a bit further up. I sat down on a fallen trunk for a while to watch the Great, Blue, & Coal Tits fly about. As well as the Tits there were Chaffinches, Nuthatches, Jay, Buzzard & Great Spotted Woodpecker. Moving on through the trees I saw a small herd of Fallow does & also spotted some Glistning Inkcaps & Puff Balls.

On the way back to the car a Stock Dove was singing & a pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers were courting, chasing in the branches of a Beech.
