Highland Water - 30th March 08

Had an afternoon free (the girlfriend had run out of jobs for me to do), so I decided to go look at the Kingfishers that I usually see up the Highland Water in the mornings.
I parked on the A35 & walked downstream. Along the way I saw Chaffinches, Song Thrushes, Firecrests, Greenfinches, Treecreepers, Nuthatches, Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Robins, Blackbirds, Redwings, & Grey Wagtails.



Some Coltfoot had finally come into flower.



Also flowering were Wood Sorrel, Lesser Celandines & Chickweed.

But no Kingfishers. So I decided to cross over & walk back up-stream, under the underpass under the A35 & walk up this end of the Highland Water.
The same birds were about plus a pair of Buzzards overhead.
The Kingfishers were along this stretch & were calling away to each other.
I carried on up stream & went through the top of Holidays Hill Inclosure. The usual birds were in here again with a Chiff Chaff singing.
It was quite sunny & warm so the Wood Ants were active & a Brimstone butterfly.
