Welcome to the Wild About Britain forums | | | | | | 24 Nov,
I was out later, around midday, and saw my first water vole in a couple of weeks, eating the water cress. The water levels in the water cress beds by the mill are now back to normal. I had a reply from the council who said it was them that had removed the water control device to prevent flooding further up stream and that it was replaced the following Monday. | | | Another weekend with no WV sightings, still plenty of latrines and a some tracks, so they are still about. The water levels have to my surprise dropped over the last week in spite of all the rain, in fact the water cress beds are down by at least a foot. I discovered that one of the flow control items has been removed, for what reason I don't know. I've emailed the wildlife trust in case it's been done illegally. On the plus side I saw a bullfinch the first I've seen in years. I think a white... | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0

The morning wasn't a wasted because walking by one of the lakes back to the car a flash of silver blue sped past me. I had heard that kingfishers are relatively rare in the park... | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0
| | | Yesterday was the launch of the River Anton Enhancement Scheme and Rooksbury mill park becoming a nature reserve. All good news for the wildlife around Andover. | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0
| | | Let me start by saying a few words about Rooksbury Mill park, the where, what, when, how, why, type thing.
Rooksbury mill is situated on the south east corner of Andover town, just off the A303. The park currently owned by Test Valley council comprises of two large lakes, the remains of gravel extraction after WWII, and part of the river Anton. The river Anton rises on the other side of Andover at Anton lakes, presumably further flooded gravel pits, flows south through the town... | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0
