1 & 2 Nov

1st Nov
I visited Rooksbury at about 7:45 on Saturday morning, on what must have been the coldest day so far this Autumn/Winter. The park was deserted of not only people but wildlife as well. By 9:00am I had managed to see the normal ducks geese and swans on the lake and robin, wrens and blackbirds in the trees. The morning wasn't a wasted because walking by one of the lakes back to the car a flash of silver blue sped past me. I had heard that kingfishers are relatively rare in the park so it was quite a treat. As for the water voles, none to be seen. I did find another latrine further down from the mill buildings, so there is still activity in at least 5 areas.
2nd Nov
Not put off by yesterdays freezing temperature I again visited the park but this time at mid morning. Plenty of dog walkers and runners now! All the same birds plus a couple of grey wag tails hopping about by the streams above the mill. I had a great view of the king fisher again on a perch above the old water cress beds. Beautiful chestnut red and wonder blues, and then to round of a lovely couple of hours..........

.......this seems to be his favorite spot as I quite often seen him here. There might be an under water entrance to his burrow just below the surface as I've seen him dragging grass under the water on a couple of occasions. He vanished for about 5 mins and I had given up hope of seeing him again, until up on the bank a small section of leaves started to behave in an odd fashion, and there he was pulling down the stem and leaves to eat.
