Back ground

Let me start by saying a few words about Rooksbury Mill park, the where, what, when, how, why, type thing.
Rooksbury mill is situated on the south east corner of Andover town, just off the A303. The park currently owned by Test Valley council comprises of two large lakes, the remains of gravel extraction after WWII, and part of the river Anton. The river Anton rises on the other side of Andover at Anton lakes, presumably further flooded gravel pits, flows south through the town centre through Rooksbury Mill park and then continues south until it joins the River Test near Chibolton. As the name suggests the there is an old mill at the park with the Anton being split to provide water for the wheel, and to provide fresh flowing water for 4 or 5 water cress beds. Through out the site there is plenty of habitat for insects, birds and mammals. The reason that I have made Rooksbury my new spot is because there is perfect habitat for water voles and otters.
I’m getting used to the area now and already have seen a number of water voles and signs of an otter and have also attended a bat walk and a bat survey. So that’s enough of the back ground entry number two will hopefully include a photo or two.
