Welcome to the Wild About Britain forums | | | | | At last my first proper water vole sighting of 2009.
This rather chubby guy was half way between the two bridges and I watched him happily munch away for several minuets before he "plopped" into the river. He emerged later and I was able to get much closer to him.

| | | I’ve had several more visits to Rooksbury throughout February and still no water vole sightings. On a plus side the number of droppings I’ve seen has increased dramatically especially between the two bridges near the car park. Fingers crossed that with the warmer weather coming I’ll get some good spots. Lots of bird activity as usual with both the kingfisher and waterrail making appearances again. There are several goldcrests all over the wooded areas, and some lovely thrushes as well. I watched... | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0
| | | Three more visits to Rooksbury to round of the month. I had 1 possible water vole sighting; I'm ashamed to say even though I saw it for several seconds I couldn't tell if it was a water vole or a rat. It was running at full speed along the waters edge. The sighting was on the edge of the park and I walked... | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0
| | What a cold start to the year, today the 11th has been the first none freezing day for weeks. The ground and some parts of the lakes have been frozen at Rooksbury since the start of the year. The usual ducks, geese and Swans are all about. The Tufted ducks are lovely with there blue bills and beady eyes.
Not sure what these are but I'm sure someone will soon telll me. ... | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 1
| | | After weeks of no sightings a brief glimps of a water vole on Christmas Eve. There is also a fresh latrine between the bridge and the new water mill buildings. The WV has made a sanctuary in the water cress to protect himself from danger, the lovely kestrel is still about perched in a tree awaiting his chance. The water vole was busy dragging food into his sanctury when I saw him. Also fresh droppings on the latrine by the carpark. The water rail I saw a few weeks ago was confirmed by a woman... | Commander of the Wild Empire | | Comments 1
