I looked online but couldn't find any recipes, so I thought I'd have a go at inventing one myself.
I based my recipe somewhat loosely on one I found for home-made dog biscuits, and changed the ingrediants to be more bird-friendly... it doesn't... | Member of the Wild Empire | | Comments 0

I spent quite a lot of time online looking for a way to convert it into a squirrel-proof, starling-resistant feeder, and finally found this amazing contraption. (Someone needs to inform Chapelwood that calling this a 'Squirrel Blocking' Cage rather than 'Squirrel Proof' is not helping the search... | Member of the Wild Empire | | | Comments 0
| | | I think in the last couple of years there have been moments when I have been aware of Goldcrests. A friend tells me he has them visiting his garden regularly, its just they are never there when I am there. On a birding trip a small bird silhouettes on branches against the setting sun and one of my companions identifies it from song as a goldcrest so I've seen one but not seen one.

| | | In the last week or so I have seen locally, four lapwings,having been away all winter, I have seen a Curlew likewise. The little flocks of black headed gulls have all but disappeared: and I still see the odd bird or two flying over but on Tuesday saw a flock of about two hundred of them on the local reservoir. Wood pigeons are back and this week at the pond I saw a pair of pied wagtails acting as if they had never been away. | | | The woman was either deluded, or lying or just didn't communicate very well but whatever, I came away with the surprising(to me) conclusion that in a particular field each morning, flocks of Canada Geese in their hundreds were to be seen and that if I were there at 7.00 I would see them.
The morning dawned grey and drear but I didn't realise that it was actually raining until I had locked the door behind me and stepped out on my way.
