| | | Brian Cox - a night with the stars Oh to be a celeb with Brian Cox in charge. Did you see and enjoy [I did] the 'stars' being gently humiliated by gentle Brian last night at the Royal Institution lecture theatre talking and demoing quantum physics - yep I got lost too but it was great TV.
He had a dig at 'crystal swingers' an those with stars tatooed on their backsides but then said Planks? Constant was a constant without any explanation.
I think the audiance enjoyed James May's little hydrogen explosion in the hands best and the standing wave experiment with the skipping rope. An amazing performance from Cox without an apparent prompt-board - his best yet
ps: I've attended talks at RI - the most memorable by the late Carl Sagan on 'Halley's Comet' some decades ago!

| | | Re: Brian Cox - a night with the stars Weren't they lucky. It's a good place to attend lectures - you can always see what's going on. He seems to remember what comes next without having to consult any notes - I'd have liked another hour
I am now wondering where my electrons have been Quite comforting to think I'm mostly space too...
How does it go 'we are stardust....'

| | | Re: Brian Cox - a night with the stars He may be knowledgeable, bright and photogenic, but he comes over as a smarmy used car salesman, "I'm soo very 'umble' kind of thing. If you like 'im, great. Cheers, Tony. |

Cheers, Tony. | Interesting 'view' but anyone who raises the profile of astronomy and engineering [as he has] is fine by me - of course if astro is not your thing then personal aspects unfortunately dominate
ps: He's the Sun's favourite scientist - I knew you'd like that

| | | Re: Brian Cox - a night with the stars I understood it !!
When they poured that bucket of sand over those 2 slots, I predicted correctly what would happen!
I wonder if I have a future in physics ....................

| | | Re: Brian Cox - a night with the stars I thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought he got the balance just right. Not too far out to be completely incomprehensible, but still enough to make you wonder what the heck was going on! |

| | | Re: Brian Cox - a night with the stars You can forgive the plonkers for not understanding all the physics (if Heisenk's uncertain, I'm absolutely confused ) but they were struggling with elementary arithmetic. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
