| | | how did the universe begin? Just been watching Horizons prog on BBC iPlayer where the pros were not happy with the BIG Bang as it doesn't satify reason that all matter in the universe began in an instant from a tiny small point... and what was before the BB?

| | | Re: how did the universe begin? I caught up with it on iplayer today, although it was a repeat and have seen this episode before.
To say the universe came from just one single point and before there was nothing, not even time, is pretty uncomprehensible! But surely it started somewhere/somehow???
I do like the theory that black holes may be the engines that create new universes, or something like that
In 50-100 years we will probably be laughing at the big bang theory

Multiple universes is one such theory. For each and every action anything or anyone does, there's another universe where the opposite happens. So we're surrounded by almost limitless universes.
What I want to know is why I'm stuck in this one and not the one where I'm a multi-millionaire, hleathly, intelligent and wise. Why am I stuck in the bad one?? |

That's how long I managed to follow the thread of the programme. I watched it to the end but. . . . . . Cheers, Tony. |

Is your glass half full (nudge the pourers elbow so they don't stop pouring) or half empty (nudge the drinkers elbow so they don't drink it all)?

| | | Re: how did the universe begin? I watched it too. Don't know if I missed it in all the detail, but it seemed to me that although they were unhappy that the big bang started from nothing, they couldn't come up with a theory whereby it explained how it all started in the beginning. All their hypotheses were for already existing processes that created our universe. Personally, I have no real idea, which is probably much the same as everyone else on the planet.
Cheers,

| | | Re: how did the universe begin? The Big Bang marks the instant at which the universe began, when space and time came into existence and all the matter in the cosmos started to expand. Amazingly, theorists have deduced the history of the universe dating back to just 10 -43 second (10 million trillion trillion trillionths of a second) after the Big Bang. Before this time all four fundamental forcesgravity, electromagnetism, and the strong and weak nuclear forceswere unified, but physicists have yet to develop a workable theory that can describe these conditions.
.............and that's from Hawking! So if he doesn't know, then no one knows
It's payday every Friday, the Pub's only three minutes down the road .......... who cares !
