| | | Indian Summer astro images Been busy during the recent Indian Summer with a week of cloudless skies for some deepsky imaging as below
The first pic is of 4 remote planetary nebulae showing their different size and colour together [2nd pic] of the classic and nearby Dumbbell planetary nebula - all are dying red-giant stars - their outer atmosphere has wafted away and they fluoresce with hydrogen [red] and oxygen [green/blue] from the strong ultra-violet light coming from a hot white-dwarf central star. Planetaries are my favourite target
3rd pic is the Trifid Nebula M20 low down in Sagittarius and my first view ever of this glowing gas [red hydrogen light] and blue reflection nebula only a few degrees above my southern horizon. All these objects are in our Milky Way galaxy but last pic is of edge-on galaxy NGC 891 high in east in Andromeda -it's way beyond of own Milky Way galaxy we live in Hope they are of interest

| | | Re: Indian Summer astro images Thanks everyone for your interest The Indian Summer seems over but a clear slot last night to target the Hellix planetary nebula NGC 7293 in Aquarius very low on the southern horizon briefly last night. Hellix proved very faint and 10min exposure [~my max from London] barely adequate - this is only my second shot of the Hellix ever and first in colour .
The Helix is another red giant star at the end of its life with remnant white-dwarf star at centre. It's large in the sky due to its relative proximity to us. The other stars in the pic are just foreground stars seen in the line of sight and unrelated to the planetary nebula

| | Re: Indian Summer astro images Thanks for these Amazing Pics, I often look at Hubble telescope, and all the Astronomy sites , it's just so interesting and uncomprehensible to understand how far some of these are and how BIG our own Beautiful Galaxy is. |
