| | | easy to understand starmaps (for me and 9 year old daughter to use) Hello
During the summer a relative give my daughter a telescope (one of the cheapish table standing ones for kids) and I am keen to get her using it now that darkness is coming in early enough.
I am after a good easy to understand star map for both of use to use (on a website or not). I can find the north star but that is about it |

Just search for that name.

Will look into that can't do any astronomy till next week - on nights till Monday morning
Edit
Rother Valley Optics is just down the road from me (forgot they do telescopes etc even though I got my bins etc from them!)
Going to look at these books as they seem a good price http://www.rothervalleyoptics.co.uk/...g_t48_u22.html
Any comments on how good they are ?

Just search for that name. | I came across Stellarium from a recommendation on WAB and agree with Meta menardi. It is an excellent free resource and I find it useful to put a name to those pesky planets when they hove into view. |

| | | Re: easy to understand starmaps (for me and 9 year old daughter to use) A very well timed thread as I am in the same situation - my 12 year old daughter has a junior telescope and we have some hand me down binoculars.
If you have an Android or smartphone, I've just (literally five minutes ago) downloaded a free Google Sky Maps app. Set your location and it maps the stars and planets as you point your phone. It also has a night mode so that you don't affect your dark accustomed eyes.
Cheating a little perhaps but it certainly should make it easier to find constellations and planets!

I even used it to set up a tricky satellite dish. Stellarium
