| | | new supernova in the 'Plough' Following the supernova in the 'Whirlpool Galaxy' below the handle of the Plough in June and now fading ...another supernova discovered last week just above the Plough handle to be seen in the NW after dusk.
My pics below from last weekend show the SN brightening over 24hrs via my 30cm scope - the SN should now to be visible in powerful bins or spotting scope if you can track down the precise position in the sky. Good luck
Footnote: Although the supernova first seen last week as a tiny point of light rapidly brightening the actual event occurred 21 million years ago eg the time light took to reach us from the Pinwheel Galaxy |

| | | Re: new supernova in the 'Plough' It may be only proper NEWS when it is on the TV, but as so often, Nytecam, you are ahead of the game.

| | | Re: new supernova in the 'Plough' Lovely photo as usual. it's the best chance I get to see it, went out last night 100% cloud cover - might try again tonight but it's not looking promising.

The two million years is approximately the time humans have existed on earth and evolved from our simian cousins !
