ISS looks down on UK @ night

Stargazers here have been straining to see the ISS pass over UK and 'The Sun' today publishes with glee the view of UK from ISS

A nice shot and it just goes to show how much light pollution there is.

'Nice' is not a nice word to describe light pollution

This wasted light going upwards costs a fortune for ratepayers and shouldn't be there to please overflying plane passengers and astronauts in ISS.

It ruins the skies for most stargazers in UK but is much more troublesome if you try to record faint deepsky objects like the Dumbbell Nebula below - the right pics shows the orange/brown cast caused by sodium streetlights leaking skywards. Luckily for me I have a 'filter' in the camera controlling software that removes the colour cast as shown on left to reveal M27's true and beautiful colours
