| | | giant solar prom for breakfast Usually have a very quick peep at the sun each morning before breakfast via my Coronado PST solar telescope that views in red hydrogen light to see if any flame-like prominences are on the solar limb.
Wow what a giant this morning largest I've ever seen. Below handheld cam shot at scope eyepiece - I've added the earth to scale!
A bright 'flared' spot [on disk above 'flame'] is probably the sunspot that cause this event. Within the hour the prom had faded away into space and the bright flared spot had faded too. The sun is very dynamic |

| | | Re: giant solar prom for breakfast That's impressive - especially considering its size compared to the Earth. Is that the sort of thing that causes havoc with our electronic equipment when the eruption is directly towards the Earth?
