Just found this - a multi gigapixel 360 degree interactive "photograph" of the universe: - Photopic Sky Survey
Well worth a look. 
Be advised that because of the size of the image, it takes a few seconds before the full image is loaded (loading bar moves across bottom of image) - but it is worth the wait.
By clicking on the " i " icon, constellations, planets, nebulae etc. are indicated, and individual stars are named when the cursor is hovered on the object in question.
You can zoom in/out, and drag the view around at will.
For those who want to know how it was done, click on the "PhotopticSkySurvey" logo at the bottom right of screen.

That's amazing! I had the Universe spinning around at one point. Not sure how......but it created the effect of surging towards a black hole!

Thanks for the link Lancs Lad, I love those sort of interactive panoramas. I'm cursed with living in a garden that has one almighty street light plonked in front of it, which makes it impossible to see the night sky. |
