| | | Meteor Did anyone here see the incredibly bright/ large meteor a few minutes after 10pm tonight? I've seen many shooting stars, but none this bright. It headed for the western horizon, starting from high in the south eastern sky and seemed to last maybe 5 seconds or more. I didn't actually see it burn out as my house got in the way (!), but it seemed to come very low and bright, so much so that if it weren't for the speed and angle I would have thought it a chinese lantern or large firework. I know two of my neighbours saw it too, as I heard them scream! |

I remeber seeing something similar that broke up a couple of years ago or so, and it turned out to be a space junk... I guess it all depends on weather and planetary movements that dictate wether or not we get see this type of show!

Very bright, and yes, lasted a few seconds. Incredible.

| | | Re: Meteor Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I'm glad you saw it too, Farplace!
I had considered the space junk idea as I'd seen something similar moving in the same direction last year which visibly broke up in the sky. Unfortunately I missed the end point of this one - as I moved around to follow it I triggered the security light. Anyway, I wonder what are the chances of the two turning out to be the same thing, whatever it is? | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
