| | | Jan 4th - partial solar eclipse Eclipses often come in close pairs ['cos the earth/sun alignment is still good] with a large [70%] partial eclipse of the Sun from sunrise ~8AM [in southern UK - later in north] on the morning of January 4th next eg fortnight after the lunar eclipse [seen low in NW] on Dec 21 and this one occurs on the opposite side of the sky low in the SE
The eclipse will be already underway at sunup in UK and ends about 10AM as the moon moves slowly aside. The sun may appear dimmed by our atmosphere at sunup but later could be too bright for safety - use special solar eclipse 'glasses' or project the sun image onto a card with binoculars.
On no account look at the sun through any unprotected telescope etc. I'm told the reflection of the sun in a window is safe when wearing dark sunglasses. Good luck for clear skies.

| | | Re: Jan 4th - partial solar eclipse It was very dark this morning at around 8.20, but as it was so overcast and had been raining it wasn't especially so for a winter's morning. |
