| | | Re: Brian Cox Stargazing live I have just checked in to see what people thought of this much-expected programme, and enjoyed everyone's comments. I am a beginner, and didn't feel it was aimed at me! I gave up after 20 mins of the first programme, unable to hear/understand what dear Dara was even saying, and irritated by the inclusion of Wossy and his 3 fancy telescopes. I'd have liked more diagrams or maps or something as I never know what I'm looking at in the sky. (Well, I know the moon and the Plough, and now I know Jupiter too!) I will have a look at the 'Heavens Above' website, as suggested. It has been unfortunate to have had such dense cloud these past nights.
Never mind. Back to the birds.... |

| | | Re: Brian Cox Stargazing live Family around on regular Friday night meal last night and my daughters and partners were impressed by Stargazing Live and pointedly said "it was'nt meant for you [as an experienced amateur]" which I have to agree so sorry for my earlier rants.
If it exposed more people to the nightsky and what's 'up there' then it was very worthwhile |

| | | Re: Brian Cox Stargazing live At our regular Society monthly meeting [Ewell AS] Friday night attendance jumped to its highest in maybe 10years with a full house of over 50 - many were visitors boosted by the BBC Stargazing Live Show
Our main speaker was Dr Chris Tout from Cambridge Uni talking about the origins of supernova* - quite heavy going but society contributions with 2010 clearskies report, the sky@night for next month and the Society's planned trip to Cape Verde islands to view the southern skies provided balance. A great evening had by all. Do you attend a local astro group?
*my pic below of one of these elusive stellar explosions taken before the meeting of SN 2011H in Andromeda - discovered earlier this month from USA
PS: the explosion occured many many millions of years ago - the light from it has only just reached earth this month even though travelling at 186,000miles per second ! Space is VERY BIG !

Thanks Nytecam for sharing, I tend to keep an eye out for your posts, especially after seeing your stuff on You Tube

| | | Re: Brian Cox Stargazing live I found the programmes a bit irritating, but there were bits that I really enjoyed and feel inspired to look into further. My mum (70) raved about it to me - she liked all of it except the Jonathan Ross bits. She thinks Brian Cox is adorable and is a fan of Dara O'Briain too. I hadn't really expected her to even watch it! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
