| | | Four moons, need help Jupiter was visible in the east yesterday at about 10 pm (somewhat to the left of the moon).
The OH took a reasonable shot of the moons, but I can't really work out what is what.
On the second image, I've labelled 5 potential satellites that appear to be in the same plane, but I presume one is a star.
Can anyone help me identify these?
I think I'm looking for Io, Callisto, Ganymede and Europa.
Thank you!
Before enhancement:
Brightness turned up and potential moons numbered:
PS They were very easy to see with bins, x8.

| | | Re: Four moons, need help Hi Rich, Thanks for the reply. Tbh, I don't know which is closest. Also, do you think that (1) is a star?

| | | Re: Four moons, need help I suppose it's not easy to tell as you say, the one that looks nearer the planet might just be visible in the distance as it comes from behind Jupiter? Hard to tell if 1 is a star or not on the picture. |

| | | Re: Four moons, need help Very many years ago there was a newspaper report of a woman that claimed to be able to see the Galilean moons with the unaided eye. She was tested and it seemed that she could. It was also mentioned that she had violet eyes and this colour is said to be more sensitive.

| | | Re: Four moons, need help I thought I could see them, but I think it was an illusion. My eyes have violet in them, so who knows. But I doubt it.
