| | | ? Mooning (new meaning) With the next full moon being due on the 5th Dec. I thought I'd share something I heard on the radio recently, with the rest of our members and visitors. It was suggested that if you looked at the moon upside down, and through your legs it would look somewhat different!
I told some of my friends about it a few days ago, and they were in stitches trying to imagine me testing the theory and said they would be waiting for a newspaper headline- Ryedale woman found in pecular position.
Maybe the fact that it should be done on a full moon has something to do with it. Sanity wise!

| | | Re: ? Mooning (new meaning) If you were in the southern hemisphere, you wouldn't have to look at it between your legs to see it upside down (as in how it is viewed up North). I'd like to see Patrick Moore look at the moon in your suggested pose.
Cheers,

Tinkerbell | When the moon is low and near the horizon (near trees, buildings etc), it has the optical illusion of it being larger. The theory is if you look at it through your legs and upside down, it should appear normal.... apparently! |

| | | Re: ? Mooning (new meaning) If you do feel inclined to try this, take note of how it looks the right way up first and then compare. I did it the other night, bright moon but not full and there was a difference, so see if we notice the same thing. Unless I'm the only one daft enough to do it!!!

| | | Re: ? Mooning (new meaning) Ok it was ME who originally posted about this.
Ok so when i was a kid.....Astronomer woman/expert Heather Cooper was on sat morning tv ( going live i think or one of those) and doing a live question phone in ( i also met her at greenwich doing a lecture in the planetarium thing).
So i called in and asked why the large orange HARVEST moons look so big? and she told me live on tv the part that your all laughing about? Its an optical illusion and if you look at it from between your legs it looks normal.
Dont go trying it tonight with the full moon as as pointed out by you all it will look the same just upside down , its the HUGE red harvest moons you get at certain time of the year? |
