| | | Getting last quarter shots... Since the beginning of the year I have been hoping to get some shots of the moon`s last quarter, but it never seems to be at that stage at a reasonable hour of the night here. Will I wait forever for last quarter at, say, between 10 pm and midnight in this country?
Thanks

| | | Re: Getting last quarter shots... Next Last quarter is 15.35 Sunday July 4 th so that is not much help.
November 28th at 20.36 is possible. next date is not until February 24th in 2011 at about 23.26

| | | Re: Getting last quarter shots... Each lunar month since January, last quarter has either been during daylight hours or at an unsociable time in the early morning, (c.04.00 hrs IIRC), so it occurred to me that, maybe, last quarter will never be at a `reasonable` hour in this part of the world.

All last quarter moons occur in the last quarter between sunset and sunrise so are doomed to be at unsocial early hours |

I have shots of all the other phases and would like last quarter to complete the set. I am prepared to stay up into the early hours, but do not want to risk disturbing the neighbours (it`s the howling that does it, I think )

| | | Re: Getting last quarter shots... As you are keen to complete your moon shots here's the next 3rd quarter moon on ***July 4th*** at dawn - and wave the ***flag*** - a day either side will do and at ~28day intervals thereafter - good luck |

| | | Re: Getting last quarter shots... According to the moon phases chart on the metta.org.uk website, moonrise on 4 July is 14.35 hrs Where did you see that it will be at dawn, please? Still, even if moonrise is at dawn, by the time it gets above the trees at the back of our house and sufficiently high that I am not shooting through too much atmosphere, it would be daylight. It looks as if November is going to be my best chance; with moonrise at 20:36 hrs I should be able to get some shots at around midnight. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
