| | | Just a heads up. Hi just a heads up on this months BBC Focus magazine.
There’s a great 7 page spread titled ‘Patrick Moore’s totally awesome guide to astronomy’ Very easy to read with star charts that you can see with the naked eye, then with bins and finally with a scope. Great if, like me you look up at night and wonder!
Cannot wait for a clear night with bins in hand!

If you enjoy it though, you could try the BBC's 'Sky at Night' magazine.
It isn't all aimed at us hardcore amateur astros - there's a monthly sky guide, with suggested naked-eye, binocular, and telescope targets.
Comes with a CD-Rom that includes the previous month's TV programme, and also has an animated version of the sky-guide which is great for beginners.
Plus reader's images, software, and other stuff.....

It's a Pity that people like myself feel that the sky at night is out of their abilities, needing fancy optics etc.
Glad I read the article. It’s inspired me to have a go. Never know I just get hooked!

I've been interested in astronomy for about 45 years and yes, I would like a big 'scope but that is serious money and I've found great enjoyment and mind blowing wonderment from naked eye and binocular astronomy.
Hope you get hooked.

Dave | That's so true Dave.
And the cost of a useful telescope is a lot lower these days than it used to be.
There was a time when you had two choices...
A cheap/nasty 60mm 'dept. store' telescope - or spend at least a month's wages.
But nowadays you can get a decent quality 150mm reflector, for £180
