Cartes du Ciel shows a gibbous moon [eg approaching last quarter] low in the WNW eg az=290deg; alt= 14deg for the date/time so just possible

Never seen it happen, but you'd best thank the Gods it's there - without it, all those that impact upon it would hit the Earth. It's gravity field is sufficient to attract many celestial interlopers toward it instead of us. There are enough Near Earth Objects to cause concern as it is...

I watched a beautiful golden moon playing 'I'Spy' behind night-black clouds at 5am this morning. Magic!

Just a quick reminder that the LCROSS collision is tomorrow, although according to Quentin Cooper on radio 4's material World this afternoon it's an hour later at 12:30pm, not 11:30am. I never seem to get it right when converting between time zones!
