| | Hunter's Moon 7.10.06 Did anyone see the beautiful Hunter's Moon which was apparently at its brightest at around 4.15a.m. today. I did, and it was so radiant it was almost too difficult to look at. Still gleaming when we got up at about 6.15a.m.
According to legend this bright moon was given the title of Hunter's Moon because it enabled poachers to stalk their prey more easily in years gone by - no doubt the gamekeepers could also spot the poachers too.

Tinkerbell | Sorry Tink, Hunter's Moon has yet to come. The Moon last night was the Harvest Moon, Hunter's Moon rises with Orion, it will be Full on Sunday November 5th at 12.59.
Harvest Moon is the one nearest the Autumnal Equinox, Hunter's Moon comes after, usually around Samhain.
If you want I can send you next year's Moon Diary &/or calendar.

| | | Re: Hunter's Moon 7.10.06 It was spectacular last night, we had the curtains open and I couldn't figure out why there was a light shining through our window, we looked out and the moon was literally glowing! The field was bathed in moonlight and the clouds were simply stuning as they blew across the sky past the moon!

Sorry Tink, Hunter's Moon has yet to come.
| Better tell Scarborough and Ryedale Astronomical Society then, since this is where I got my information - to quote them (At 04h13 on the 7th, occurs the Hunter’s Moon) Sky Notes - Oct 2006.
I should apologise for giving duff gen - but it was still brilliant to see, whatever it was!

the white flowers in the hedges looked quite surreal

| | | Re: Hunter's Moon 7.10.06 I know this full moon and the sept one has caused exceptionally high tides along the east coast, we went to felixstowe yesterday to see how high it came up but as the wind was off shore it wasn't too bad. The sept was one was quite scary as there was a strong wind off the sea.
I wondered has the moon been closer to us to make this happen? |

| | | Re: Hunter's Moon 7.10.06 I think its the combination of full moon and equinox being close together that makes that exagerates the effect.
For us the low tide was even more impressive. We have a rocky shoreline and were able to walk out to some large areas of rock that are normaly not visible or only have their highest point above water. We were also able to walk into some sea cave that would usualy require a kayak to get into. |

If you go here - EasyTide - on-line tidal predictions from the UKHO and select a port you can get a prediction of the tides for the next 7 days that also gives the maximum and minimum tide hights and times. |

| | | Re: Hunter's Moon 7.10.06 The moon was stunning last night (Saturday 7th). I actually got out of bed because I thought the outside light had been left on by accident! I opened the curtains to find that it wasn't actually the lights at all but the moolight - I could see every blade of grass in the orchard .
...mind you, the full moon keeps me awake something chronic. I'm about ready to snuggle under the duvet and it's only 4:30!

I hadn't thought of seeing the low of the tide
So I take it the moon makes it very low around the equinox as well as high? |

| | | Re: Hunter's Moon 7.10.06 I was out in it at 4am! Saturday morning, i was heading to the train station to catch the early train to Gatwick Airport to do some plane spotting as i like doing that occasionally
Here is a pic i took of Gatwick with the full Moon
Hope you like that, i would love to get great shots of the full Moon but i dont think my Kodak DX4530 works because it comes out as a blurry white disc.
During a full moon if iam out this early, i see animals like Rabbits, foxes, and even the occasional Badger! but when i get my camera out they run away
Yes Hunters moon is later this year due to the equinox, my local Planetaruim prof said
The full moon does fascinate me, it makes me feel adventurous, also i get fur all over me, a long bushy tail, a long nose and i feel like going HOWWWWL!

Now steady on there we could be moving into another thread on another forum, that's the trouble with Diskworld.
