"Ceres was discovered on January 1, 1801, by Giuseppe Piazzi,[17] and is named after the Roman goddess Ceres — the goddess of growing plants, the harvest, and motherly love. With a diameter of about 950 km, Ceres is by far the largest and most massive body in the asteroid belt [between Mars and Jupiter], and contains a third (32%) of the belt's total mass." Wikipedia
Ceres is currently a binocular object in Leo the Lion 'back' above ringed planet Saturn - a bright constellation in the SSW fairly high up at dusk - a starchart will be need to home-in on this minor planet or asteroid and now officially named a Dwarf Planet due to its size.
